"Now I can save some money for my future"

Jasmine was living in a remote village in the countryside. When she was around 20 years old, three years ago, her husband died leaving her alone with their two children. Thus, she decided to return to her father’s house, being unable to maintain her family. About her educational qualification, she could complete only class five from the nearby Government Primary School in her village and then she had to drop out due to poverty.

She started working as an agriculture daily labourer and she became a beneficiary of a local NGO, partner of Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF). MJF’s staff shared about the opportunity to attend a two months vocational training on Ready Made Garment (RMG) to become a sewing operator in the RMG sector. Jasmine showed her interest: she wanted to bear the cost of her two children, being her parents’ economic condition very low. She joined the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in March 2016.

Being very attentive, she successfully completed the training and she has been job placed in a compliant factory in May 2016.

Jasmine showed her competency to her employer and after few months she has been promoted as Senior Sewing operator. She is working 8-10 hours per day. With her salary, after paying her monthly bills (food, house rent and other expenses), she can save money that she can send to her village for her children’s education and her parents’ medicine costs. Her parents are at the moment taking care of them.

She is happy of her new life: she feels secure at her workplace, she gets her salary on time, she can financially support her family and her family is now in a better situation than before.

She does not want to marry again. She wants to educate her children. When they will complete their school education, then she will bring them to live with her. She also opened a bank account and she is saving some money every month for the future.
